Reflections on the debate (Right to die) Thursday, February 18, 2010 , 3:23 AM
In my opinion, I believe that everybody has a choice whether they want to live or die, I think that this debate is very interesting and enriching in this category. However, I also think that life is very precious and should not be given up just because of financial troubles or a decision made during the spur of the moment. I think I would agree more with the opposition as I do not believe in taking a person's life no matter what suffering he is going through. I also agree that giving a person the right to die is inhuman and is very similar to helping a person commit suicide, however, I have to admit that the proposition also has some very good points, eg. we should let the patient make their own choice. Although , to me, every life counts and every hope, no matter how small is worth hanging on to, therefore, I feel that as long as there is hope for a cure, the patients should hold out and not give in and take their own lives.
I think that both the opposition and the proposition have put forward very good points and have presented their cases very well. However, I think that the proposition were more persuasive and rather ruthlessly battered their opponents aside. The opposition tended to repeat their points and try to drive it home whereas the proposition used various methods to get to the audience while rebuking the opposing team.
Overall, I think the debate was very exciting and interesting and kept the audience at the edge of their seats, I think it was a very enriching experience as it was my first time seeing such a heated debate.
